Bradford come from behind to beat Leyton Orient 3-1 and reach Carabao Cup fourth round

Bradford City advanced in the Carabao Cup after beating Leyton Orient 3-1 at home. Goals from Will Swan, Stephen Humphrys and Nick Powell turned the tie around after Macaulay Gillesphey's own goal had given Leyton Orient a first-half lead. The match started at a controlled tempo, with Leyton Orient defending deep and looking to counter-attack. Bradford had more possession but struggled to break through. In the 39th minute, however, the game changed unexpectedly. Armando Dobra delivered a cross from the left, and Macaulay Gillesphey, attempting to clear, sliced the ball into his own net past Jon McCracken. It was a cruel moment for the defender, but Bradford responded quickly. Before the interval, Stephen Humphrys played Will Swan through on goal, and Swan finished calmly past Noah Phillips to make it 1-1. The equalizer gave Bradford renewed confidence in the second half. Leyton Orient almost regained the lead in the 51st minute when Idris El Mizouni's shot hit the crossbar and then bounced off Jon McCracken before going clear. Bradford then took control. In the 58th minute, Kayden Jackson crossed, and Humphrys produced a fine looping header to make it 2-1. Substitute Nick Powell made an immediate impact. His low shot was saved by Phillips in the 63rd minute, and he hit the post with a header eight minutes later. Bradford kept pressing and finally sealed the win in the 87th minute when Powell volleyed home to make it 3-1. Bradford deserved the victory for their improved second-half display. The attacking trio of Swan, Humphrys and Powell worked well together, causing constant problems for the Leyton Orient defence. The team showed character after falling behind, and their substitutes proved decisive. Leyton Orient, on the other hand, will regret their inability to protect their lead. Defensive lapses and a lack of concentration at key moments cost them dearly. They will need to learn quickly if they want to progress in other competitions. The win also highlighted Bradford's squad depth. Powell's impact from the bench gave the manager more options for the challenges ahead. This result is more than just a place in the fourth round; it is a statement of intent from Bradford in domestic cup competitions. Whether they can keep producing surprises in the next round remains to be seen, but their performance against Leyton Orient was certainly encouraging.
